APRIL ROSE
BENEDICT
Filmmaker and Photographer
I am originally from Duluth, Minnesota, USA and grew up on a small farm. My desire to be a filmmaker came mostly from doing theater in high school, starting off as an art assistant and moving up the ladder from props and set decoration, to stage/production manager, and even dabbling with the lighting crew. Despite my dream to pursue film I first went to college for Geospatial Technologies and Geographic Information Systems. In college I worked in the campus news room filming, producing, and sometimes starring in the weekly student news videos. This work study program led me to secure an internship at NASA as a film and photography intern, where I spent the summer setting up cameras, lights, and tripods for NASA’s Marshall TV and the photography department at the Marshall Space Flight Center. My passion for film-making only grew during this internship and after completing one more semester at my local college, I moved away from small town Minnesota and joined the film production program at Vancouver Film School, specializing in Cinematography and Production Design. I graduated Vancouver Film School in late February of 2020.
